CHAPTER 1
OPINIONS OF A WIZARD
Behold, the wizard of great power and unmatched supernatural ability, dressed in white cotton robes that glistened in the morning sun like the finest silk from the Far East. It was a wonderful sight, the old wizard standing proud atop the great sheer cliffs, hundreds of feet high, with the huge waves of the black ocean crashing against the shore below. It was a perfect morning. Perfect because everything was as it should be, a perfect balance and harmony with the natural elements, and so the day begun. The wizard was excited because today he would be attempting something that he had never attempted before, and that if successful, would bestow legendary status upon him. He would go within himself and gather all the power and courage he could summon, together with the highest levels of willpower and faith, and attempt to perform an amazing feat that the world had not seen for perhaps thousands of years. This day, the wizard would attempt actual flight. And so it would be. He had to focus his energy, and control his excitement, lest it destroy the perfectly balanced state of mind that he had created today.
It had rained the night before. A very heavy rain. A purifying rain. And in the crisp morning air, the power of the rain could still be felt, lingering in the air like an invisible magickal mist. The feeling that the wizard was experiencing inside at that moment was pure bliss. Bliss at being so happy and grateful for where he was now at this important juncture in his life. He had experienced many hardships during his long lifetime, but these hardships and difficult times had only helped to make him the strong and wise being he was today. He was a highly respected being in the lands of the great plains of Earth. He was revered by some and feared by others. Feared because they did not understand him, and what he truly sought in his lifetime. Many thought he was just a power-hungry old wizard, only interested in himself and becoming the most powerful being ever to walk the Earth. This was partially true, because the wizard did indeed crave immense and extraordinary powers that would enable him to become the ruler of the lands of Earth, where he would hold dominion over all other beings and creatures, just like a god. Yes, a god. That was what he was striving to become. And he was determined to achieve this goal in this lifetime before his passing or transition at the end of his life into realm of the spirit world. It was his destiny, his great dream. He alone aspired to become a god on Earth. Others thought this was blasphemy, but those people were small-minded, and did not understand the true nature and workings of the universe.
The wizard understood that a being could aspire to become anything they truly desired, and there was absolutely nothing that could stop that being from achieving their high goal, except of course, the self. It was one’s self that could sabotage one’s great goals on this Earth. Others could not do so, for others did not hold any real power over the one with the dream. But the self, well, that was a different story. The mind of the self knows a thousand ways of preventing the achievement of lofty goals such as becoming a supernatural being with special powers. However, if one could overcome the self, which was what the old wizard had done, then there were no more blocks in the path to realizing the greatness that was and is the destiny of any being with guts enough to pursue great goals and dreams, even if the whole world thinks you are a crazy fool for doing so. Trust and belief in one’s self is all that is required. Other’s thoughts, opinions, and ideas of one’s own life mean absolutely nothing, and are of no value whatsoever.
As he looked out over the huge expanse of ocean before him, he knew that his time had come. He had been preparing his whole life for this time. This time in his life where he would shed the skin of his former less powerful self and become something much greater than anyone could have imagined he would become. Watching from high above, as the great waves crashed against the rocky shoreline below, he was reminded of how insignificant he was in the universe. Just a speck of dust. A grain of sand. But due to his great wisdom, he also knew that he was everything. Everything was inside him, the planets, stars, galaxies, and universes. All were contained inside his very being. He was all things at all times. He was timeless. Lesser beings would not have understood this type of thinking. To become powerful, you must become nothing, and only then can you become everything. Then, when you are everything, you can experience everything, and also control everything around you. That is why the ancient sages throughout history have always said to become one with everything around you. They understood. Most did not really understand the deeper meaning of those words, but ever since the wizard was a young boy, he had always felt a strong connection to everything around him. He never quite understood it until his later years, of course, but it was always there. He was different. As a child he had been so different from all other children, and now as an adult, he was still just as different compared with all the other people that populated the lands.
The wizard looked up, and as the strong ocean breeze blew across the cliff, ruffling his long gray hair and beard, he watched a sea eagle circling high in the azure sky above him. Yes, he thought to himself, I am just like you, free, in all respects. The magnificent eagle, with its keen piercing eyes and focused mind, was similar in many ways to the old wizard. However, there was the difference that the eagle had always been free and had tasted freedom since birth, but the wizard had been born into bondage and slavery, as all humans on Earth had, and he had worked hard to free himself of those invisible slave chains that were holding him down, and preventing him from achieving his full potential as a divine supernatural being of great and supreme power. He had dedicated his whole life to the attainment of power, and it had not come easy as some would have imagined. It had not been handed to him on a silver platter when he was a young boy. No. The wizard had spent many decades developing himself into the awesomely powerful being that he was today. Countless nights without sleep, studying, by candle light, the ancient arts of sorcery, enticed by the power that was to be attained by those who gave everything to the search and study of the mystical arts. Although, by all rights, the wizard was actually a sorcerer, however, he preferred to keep this a secret. He chose to be known as a wizard, because by their very nature, wizards are known to be unassuming.
Most wizards that roam the lands of Earth do not have any real substantial power. Their practice is more along the lines of witchcraft, and no disrespect is intended at all, as witchcraft is, of course, a highly respected art. However, wizardry and witchcraft are still lesser arts in terms of power, when compared with the art of sorcery. A powerful sorcerer will always defeat a powerful wizard or witch in any battle. This is acknowledged by most practitioners of the magickal arts. The arts are different and are intended to have different outcomes. Witchcraft has its purpose, and sorcery has its purpose, and the two were never meant to be held in comparison anyway. I shall state again that both are highly respected arts within the magickal circles found on planet Earth.
Both witches and sorcerers are feared by the common people of Earth, because they do not understand us. People fear what they do not know, or do not understand, and this is how we wizards, witches, and sorcerers would want it to be anyway, because we want to be left alone, away from the common folk of the lands. We enjoy our solitude and cannot bare the company of the common folk for too long, so the fact that we are somewhat feared, serves us well. That is not to say that we look to be feared. It would be nice if the common people understood us better, rather than making wild assumptions about our practices, and claims by some that we worship the devil, or that we are evil. This is complete nonsense, but it is to be expected from the common people, for their intellect is rather undeveloped to say the least. Of course, these are all just my personal opinions, the ramblings of an old wizard.
As is the case with most wizards and sorcerers, I have a dream. A dream where I develop my powers to such a degree that I can leave the lower planes of existence, and dwell permanently on the higher planes, to live life as a godlike being, still in this world, but not of this world. A life of pure spirituality, instead of the mundane existence that most beings live out on this planet, this great blue and green sphere hurtling through space. Is it not the truth that what thou desire most in thy heart, will come to pass? Is that not one of the core teachings passed down from wizard to wizard, sorcerer to sorcerer? And have I not held this desire in my heart since I was a young boy? Yes, it is true, I have. And so I expect my desire to come to pass while I am still of this mortal world. The desire to attain the powers of the gods.
There are many wizards throughout the lands, and a great variety of wizards they are. Some of these wizards are simply wise old men who have the wisdom of age and experience, and that is respectable enough. These types of wizards are not power-hungry. They do not have the great desire to dwell in the higher spiritual realms, for they are but simple-minded men, who have shunned normal mundane existence, and have chosen the life of a wizard, a life of mystery, and also a life of peace and solitude, away from the masses who dwell in the cities and towns of the world.
But a wizard does not always have to live completely alone, and sometimes a wizard may seek the companionship of a witch, who shares similar philosophies about life, and they may have a happy lifetime together, practicing the magickal arts deep into their old age. That is a good life. A happy existence, with a witch as a companion. I have often thought of having the companionship of a witch again, as I did in my younger years, but, alas, time is slowly escaping me, and there is much work to be done if I am to reach the position that I desire to attain in my life. Although I could be happy with a good-hearted witch to share the rest of my days with, I know that, through no fault of her own, she would likely take time away from my own sorcery practice, and slow down the attainment of my most precious goals of power. That is why I feel I should live out the rest of my days in solitude, alone on the mountains, with nature as my companion. When one develops wisdom, one can see the wisdom in living alone. Love and companionship can be beautiful things I must admit, as I have experienced them before, as I previously mentioned. However, love and companionship can perhaps be a burden for the one who truly desires to reach great heights in their spiritual training, and also great heights in terms of magickal powers.
One day, I may relate to you my time as a younger wizard, and how I was fortunate enough to meet a good-hearted, and good-natured witch, with whom I spent many happy years with. You see, I am not the cold-hearted, emotionless sorcerer that you may have imagined me to be. I too have a soft spot in my heart for the feminine species, especially when those particular female species are practitioners of magick. When one is younger in years, the desires and impulses of the heart are not so easy to control, as I am sure many of you can agree and relate with me. Which is why, in my older years now as a wizard, I can look through the eyes of wisdom, because I had much experience of relationships in my younger years.
CHAPTER 2
A MAGICKAL STAFF
Now let me tell you about my magickal staff. A magickal staff or wand is the most precious tool, so I will relate to you the tale of how it came to be in my possession, or rather, how it manifested into my life. I should note that I have carried this particular wizard’s staff with me for well over forty years. I was in my mid-twenties when I constructed this excellent magickal tool. Yes, I was quite a young wizard at that time, and I had my whole life ahead of me. I was arrogant and power-hungry at that time. I am still power-hungry to this day, which I am proud of, but I am pleased to say that I am much less arrogant than I was all those decades ago.
So, when I was younger, I desired to be the most powerful wizard in all the lands, the most powerful wizard ever to have walked the Earth. I knew that a powerful wizard needed a powerful tool with which to work his magick, and what better tool, I thought, than a magnificent bejeweled wizard’s staff. I was not old at that time, and I did not need the support of a staff, but I just thought it would help make me look the part of a wizard even more if I grew a long beard and carried an impressive magickal staff. At some time or another, most magickal practitioners, whether they be witches, wizards, or sorcerers, own and carry a magickal staff, which they have imbued with their own personal magickal energies. The staff gives the wizard a certain feeling of authority and confidence, because it can also be used as a magickal weapon if the situation called for it, for self-protection and defense, and also in the defense of others. It can also be used as an offensive weapon, but usually only by those wizards and sorcerers who have been corrupted by the dark side, who are naturally evil beings at heart. Luckily, these evil beings are but few and far between, and the large majority of the magickal community practices their magickal art for benevolent reasons, either to help them develop themselves, or to help others, for example, in the case of the magickal healing arts.
Since the day I imbued my own staff with magickal powers, it has served me excellently, and has saved my life on numerous occasions. There was one time when I was walking through an unfamiliar forest, and a came upon a huge ferocious two-headed beast. The beast must have been very hungry because saliva dripped from its mouths as it eyed me, as if surveying its next meal. Without warning, the huge and powerful beast launched itself towards me, and such was it that I was taken aback, unprepared for the sudden attack, and did not have time to properly react. The trusty magickal staff that I was holding in my hand, suddenly broke free from my grasp, and at lightning speed, it flew through the air towards the oncoming two-headed predator closing in on me. The next moment I knew, the staff had lodged itself deep into the heart of the two-headed beast, and the monstrous creature howled in pain and agony, dropping to the floor right in front of me, its legs twitching slightly, and the light of life dying rapidly from its eyes. The beast had suffered a mortal and lethal wound, and within seconds it was dead.
After recovering from the shock and surprise, not only of the beast almost attacking me, but of my own magickal staff unexpectedly protecting me when my life had been in imminent danger. I had recalled legends of a wizard’s weapon protecting its owner by supernatural means, but that was the first time I had ever personally witnessed such a thing in all the years that I have lived upon this Earth.
From that day forth, I always showed my magickal staff the highest degree of respect and admiration, even though it seemingly appeared to be made from a just piece of wood, with a few precious jewels embedded into it, it did in fact possess an intelligence of sorts, and it was in fact alive, but not in the sense that you and I normally think of something that is living. Actually, until wood is cut from a tree, or that the tree dies, the wood is very much alive, as it is a part of the whole tree, and the tree has life, and is a sentient being of sorts. When you think about it, my wooden staff did actually have natural life when it was still part of a living tree. When I came into possession of this staff, and when I imbued it with my magickal power and energy, what I was actually doing was restoring the life essence to the wooden staff, so that it could once again be a sentient thing, with a certain degree of intelligence and feeling, though of course, not the type of intelligence and feeling that you and I attribute to human beings, but something entirely different and perhaps beyond our comprehension.
So, the story I have just related to you was just one of the times where my magickal staff has saved my life. I was not going to tell you any more tales of how I was saved by my staff, but I will let you know briefly of one more occasion where I had been walking along a narrow and treacherous cliff-top path. A storm had been raging ominously overhead, and a heavy rain was lashing around me, with thunder and lightning booming and crackling not far off in the black clouds hanging above. The path was extremely dangerous and slippery, and for a second, I lost my footing, as the rocks beneath my leather boot gave way, crumbling beneath my weight. I was caught off guard, and knocked off balance by the sudden shift of the rocks beneath my feet. This caused me to slip straight off the edge of the cliff, and I fell hundreds of feet plunging towards my inevitable death, with the raging sea below waiting to swallow me up.
But, to my complete amazement, the staff that I was still holding tightly in my hand exerted a great pressure upwards, against the pull of gravity, slowing my fall, and instead of me hitting the ocean at great speed, which would have probably resulted in my death, just before making impact with the cold sea, I suddenly slowed right down to a gentle speed like a leaf falling gently from a tree. Then I dropped into the ocean, unhurt, and still grasping my magickal staff tightly, I swam with all my strength towards the nearby grey rocks that protruded outwards from the bottom of the cliff face. Somehow, amidst the raging ocean and pounding waves, I managed to pull myself up onto the safety of the rocks, free from the clutches of the icy cold sea that had intended to ravage me and take my life away.
That day, I did not die, as my magickal staff had saved me from a high-speed impact with the ocean that would have surely knocked me unconscious, or even killed me. As I lay there on the wet slab of rock with the storm raging around me and the rain unceasing, but finally free of the paralyzing icy coldness of the terrifying black sea, I looked over at the wooden staff that was still held tightly in my hand, and in that moment, I felt a great kinship with the magickal staff that had just saved my life once again, and I thanked it deeply from within my heart. I do not know if it was my own willpower that had caused the staff to act in the way it did to save my life, or whether the staff had acted on its own intuition, but I was eternally thankful and grateful nonetheless, to the mysterious power that had intervened in that life-threatening moment.
Those are just two examples of times in my life where my magickal wooden staff has saved my life, which is why I now treat it with the highest respect and reverence. Never underestimate the power of the invisible magickal forces around you. Put your faith in magick, as there is always a chance that it will respond to your faith and your belief by helping you in times of great need, when there is no other hope left. Even if you do consider yourself a lower-level wizard who has not yet become as powerful as someone such as myself, you can and must still have great faith in your magickal powers and abilities, even if you do not yet see them manifesting in the physical reality in front of your eyes. Faith is everything for a wizard, sorcerer, or witch, in the magickal realm that we inhabit here on Earth. Always remember that we are different from the normal folk of the world, and that we must place our belief in the unseen, and by doing so, only then will the unseen manifest itself and become seen, which is what the normal folk would consider to be a miracle, but to you and I, it is simply a form of magick, that through practice and training in the magickal arts, we learn to harness the elements and make reality itself respond to the command of our will.
You see, even though I may be considered one of the most powerful wizards or sorcerers in all the lands, I did once come from humble beginnings, and I was not born with the supernatural powers that you may see me wielding today. It takes years, even decades of hard work and dedication to reach even a fraction of the power that is truly possible for us to acquire in our lifetime. If you are wizard or a sorcerer, or a witch, on the path to attaining powers, then have faith in yourself, spend your time each day wisely, and the powerful magick that you so desire in your heart, may one day be yours. Let me be the shining example for you to follow. Know, that what I have achieved in my years of hard work, that you can achieve also. And you will achieve these things, if you have the burning desire and passion in your heart necessary to do it.
